We at Hall Pass Watches are all about timers. Mainly physical, tangible, durable sport watches that in addition to time, date, alarm and the usual, also has modes to time your EMOMs, Tabatas, or tally your rounds, etc.
But what do we do with people who are accustomed to using their smartphone at their box, garage gym, park or wherever they workout?
Option 1 is we try to convert them to use our watches who were built with them in mind. But in the meantime, we employ option 2, which is to provide a simple daily 1 stop app for all your timer and interval training needs.
Before we finished manufacturing the watch, we would use a diverse number of apps to time our workouts. Many of them very good, but, I personally did not like having to use a specific app for tabatas the day those came up, the native Samsung stopwatch to time and tally rounds if that came up, or on amrap days waiting for the number on any clock to change, then have to constantly substract and add in my head between each round in those 20 minutes. All this while having to either listen for the beep, and most probably have to glance every 20 seconds to make sure I did not miss the transition.
So we had to make an app that:
- Had all the possible timers in one quick smartphone menu. So less things to think off before your workout.
- Could be taken with you for an even better workout experience and comfort if you owned an iWatch or Android Wear smartwatch.
- Would allow a lot of customizing, renaming, editing, etc. So the reminders would be clear, and the athlete could focus on what he was meant to focus: the workout and the experience.
- You could easily program and copy variable intervals and portions of any workout, so you could time the whole training session, keeping transitions, breaks, and sections of the workout in check. Coaches have even used this function to set reminders at 8 minutes, 4 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes etc within the same hour, so they can control the flow of their client without unprofessionally constantly glancing at their cellphone.
Our sport, whether we call it CrossFit, Functional Training, Interval Training, Circuit Training, Hiit, or whether you dislike the camps who call it differently or not, utilizes different time domains to get you to the best and fittest version of yourself.
