If only I could reduce or eliminate my commute…
…then I think I would not be advancing in life.
Life in the car can get boring, sometimes it does, but it doesn’t have to, and I make a point of taking full advantage of this “lost” time.
My commute is where most of Hall Pass Watches was inspired and thought through, where most of the required lessons were learned, where the tone and vision continues to be forged, and where I keep up to date with what’s going on in my hobbies, not to mention where my education happens.
I don’t read, listen, or watch the news (I make a point of it), but I do listen to a lot of audiobooks while I drive, and I can stay up to date with the news I want to, and the topics I care about through Podcasts.
The first podcast I ever listened to was RX Muscle Radio, back when the CrossFit craze had not reached my neck of the woods. Then I ran into Super Human Radio by Carl Lenore and that opened a whole can of worms about nutrition, being healthy, big pharma, GMOs, etc.
Luckily CrossFit Radio came into the scene, and back then they even had a weekend edition, so 2 per week was very useful in feeding the obsession and desire for more Cool Aid.
Then the training podcasts began sprouting out of everywhere, and commutes got happier and happier, and with that, education, passion and purpose.
So, if my commute went away, I don’t know in what other time of the day I would visit this unaccredited university responsible for the past 15 years of my learning and for keeping me company and informed about what I like. Gym time is reserved for heavy metal and hardcore music (and 311), office time is for focused work, home is for family, and car…for learning, improving, finding purpose and envisioning achieving your goals.
Below are the most popular podcasts related to our functional fitness niche. I might be missing a few, but here are the ones I listen to. I’m sharing for your enjoyment too. You might be missing one that you find very useful and entertaining. If you are on this list, thank you for making my life better!
If you’ve never listened to podcasts, stop wasting downtime. I love, love, love music, I’m a drummer and a Rockstar (in my past life and my next one), but too much music is a viable possibility, especially if you drive a lot. Check out at least one episode of any of these, they are quite consistent on mood and style from episode to episode, so you can easily make up your mind if they hit the nail on the head with you, or not.
Things to look out in a podcast: Fancy titles of episodes that hint at solving that problem you have but that 50 books still haven’t fixed, only to find out the episode is 1 hour of unfocused talk, BS, and a waste of time after getting your hopes up. But, then again, you can always learn something, or the episode can lead to a day dream where you make a breakthrough decision or new vision.
